A lone strike against the run of play from Carl Veart has lifted Adelaide United to a 1-0 win over Melbourne Victory in their opening match of the Pre-Season Cup at Launceston's Aurora Stadium.
Melbourne looked the better team for most of the match against an under-strength Adelaide outfit but, in what has become an all-too-familiar scenario for Ernie Merrick and his charges, the weight of possession and excellent scoring chances failed to produce a goal.
