The New Zealand Knights and Newcastle's Jets fought out a 1-1 draw in the pre-season cup at North Harbour Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Knights held the lead at half-time courtesy of a Jonti Richter strike before the Jets equalised in the second half through striker Mark Bridge.
Fielding only three players from last season's wooden spoon squad, the Knights showed they should be a more competitive side this season, despite not holding their lead.
